Check temperature first
The borellii planning range here is cooler than the cockatoo range. Begin by measuring the aquarium through normal daily conditions and considering summer peaks. If your chosen tankmates require sustained warmer water, a cooler-running borellii setup may be the wrong combination even when both species are sold as beginner options.
Different visual character
Borellii offers a compact umbrella-like display with blue and yellow color, while cacatuoides is known for its dorsal crest and ornamental orange or red strains. Choose the appearance you enjoy after the aquarium passes the space and water checks. A commercial photograph says little about the individual fish’s history.
A beginner label has conditions
Both still need an established aquarium, shelter and feeding access. A busy community can leave a quiet fish underfed or hidden. Watch each individual and keep companions restrained. Do not interpret small adult size as permission to reduce floor space, or assume that a peaceful first week guarantees peaceful brood care.
Ask the supplier the same questions
Find out whether the stock is captive-bred, which foods it accepts and the water in which it was raised. Compare that information with your measurements. Either can be a rewarding first project when the match is sound; neither should be purchased on reputation alone without a practical separation plan.
